Survivair has introduced two new Mark 2 breathing apparatus: a 60-minute Mark 2 high-performance SCBA and a 30-minute Mark 2 SCBA with hoop-wrapped cylinders. COOLING VEST

ILC Dover introduces the Model 17 Comfort Vest, which offers comfort to personnel in plants where water is readily available to the work area. The vest interfaces with warm or cool running water sources via an umbilical feed. The desired effects of the vest last as long as water is provided. The water is then circulated through a channeling system covering the front and back of the worker’s torso.

A respirator cleaning system designed for individual use is now available from Georgia Steel & Chemical Co. The Fresh-Kit* System contains all the tools and supplies used to clean, deodorize, and store respirators. This system uses a “special cleaner” that meets EPA Registers respirator cleaning recommendations issued by ANSI and OSHA. The EPA found the “special cleaner” effective against the AIDS virus.

SCBA HAZMAT BREAKTHOUGH CONNECTIONS

International Safety Instruments has Hazmat Airline Breakthrough Connections for use with the ISI Magnum SCBA and class A hazmat suits. It permits a Magnum SCBA to be worn inside a totally encapsulated haz mat suit and connected via airline to a remote air source. IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM

Amskan Ltd. introduces BARTAG, an automatic electronic identification (AEI) system. The system uses small electronic labels that can be mounted on a firefighter’s helmet or protective clothing. It emits an encoded signal when interrogated by a BARTAG reader (hand-held) which is attached to a portable data logger. Not affected by heat, smoke, or water, it can be read from distances of 20 to 50 feet. The system is capable of monitoring the movement of firefighters, especially in limited visibility.
