Garland (TX) Firefighters Rescue and Resuscitate Young Girl

Firefighters resuscitated a 5-year-old girl after a fire in Garland, reports NBC Dallas Fort-Worth.

A Garland Fire Department spokesman said firefighters responded to a house fire at about 5:45 a.m.

“They were met by a grandmother in the front yard who stated her granddaughter was still in the back bedroom,” Garland Fire Department Assistant Chief Carl Coan said.

Coan said a firefighter had to crawl through the girl’s window to rescue her from the house.

“You have a firefighter who is 5 foot 8 getting through a window that’s 6 foot off the ground,” he said. “So it took some effort.”

The girl was not breathing when she was removed from the house. Officials said firefighters performed CPR on were able to start her breathing again.

The girl was taken to Parkland Garland Health Center, officials said. Her family told NBC 5 that she was sedated but expected to make a full recovery.
