Girl Seriously Burned During Illegal Fireworks Show in Maryland

A teenage girl was seriously burned Saturday night during a neighborhood fireworks show in Fallston, Maryland, according to a report.

The Washington Post reported (http://wapo.st/1HK72BA)  that the victim, 15, was sitting about 25 feet away from where a man was allegedly setting off ground and aerial fireworks in front of his home. A wayward firework landed in the girl’s lap while she was sitting cross-legged in a driveway, resulting in second-degree burns to about nine percent of her legs and fingers.

This was but one of numerous fireworks-related incidents around the nation during the Independence Day period. In Maine, a 22-year-old man died instantly Saturding night after setting a firework off on his head, while last week fireworks were blamed in a fire that wrecked two California homes including that of a Merced firefighter. Illegal fireworks were blamed for fires that threatened homes and destroyed property in several locations around California and elsewhere, and reports indicated that in Dallas (TX) firefighters had fireworks launched at them during a response to a dumpster fire.
