DuPont Clean Agent Solutions for Fire Protection at NFPA World Safety Conference & Expo

DuPont Fire Extinguishants will exhibit its portfolio of clean agent fire extinguishants at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) World Safety Conference & Expo — the premiere event for fire and life safety professionals — in Boston, Mass., at the Boston Convention & Expo Center, June 3-7, 2007. Visitors to the NFPA World Safety Conference & Expo will find DuPont Fire Extinguishants at booth #619.

As day-to-day use of technology and advanced electrical systems continues to increase within many commercial facilities, the risk of a Class C fire, or one involving energized electrical equipment, escalates. Class C fires can cause significant harm to personnel and damage to property, as well as business continuity, which may result in business losses long after the fire is contained.

DuPont FE clean agent fire extinguishants have a unique combination of properties that provide highly effective protection for facilities containing high-value electrical equipment, such as telecommunication and data processing centers, health care, and high-tech manufacturing environments. They are safe for use in areas where people are present. Unlike water or other dry chemical suppression methods, DuPont FE clean agent fire extinguishants are non-conductive and non-corrosive, so they are safe to use around sensitive electronic systems and, because they do not leave behind residue that may damage equipment, they can help to minimize costly post-fire clean-up and significant business downtime. Additionally, DuPont FE clean agent fire extinguishants have zero ozone-depletion potential and are environmentally preferred to halons.

“Fire and life safety professionals are continually faced with the challenge of understanding and identifying solutions to reduce the overall effects of a fire, which include the impact of heat and smoke, as well as the additional damage that may result from a fire extinguishant that is improperly selected or applied,” said Greg M. Rubin, global business manager, DuPont Fluorochemicals – Specialties. “Using a clean agent, such as DuPont FE fire extinguishant, is recommended as a best practice in safety that goes beyond minimum standards for fire protection and addresses these widespread concerns. DuPont has more than 35 years of experience in developing effective clean agent fire protection, and has developed a broad portfolio of solutions that help our customers protect what matters most — people, assets and the environment.”

At this year’s NFPA Technical Committee Report Sessions, a floor vote will be held on Comment ROC 2001-61a, which proposes changes to the minimum Class C design concentration requirements of clean agents as specified in NFPA Standard 2001. As NFPA members prepare to vote, it will be important to understand the recommended changes that are part of Comment ROC 2001-61a and how the proposed increase will impact them and their customers.
