MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES COMPANY (MSA) has entered a strategic partnership with INDIGO SYSTEMS CORPORATION to develop and market the next generation of firefighting thermal imaging cameras. Indigo will provide core leading-edge technology while MSA will engineer the displays, controls, mechanics, and ergonomics, and provide the manufacturing capability. Indigo Systems specializes in infrared technology for commercial and military applications.

The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION named David Nuss regional manager for the Denver, Colorado, region. He will be responsible for promoting the adoption of NFPA codes, standards, educational programs, and membership. Nuss will represent the NFPA at code hearings, legislative sessions, and fire safety meetings.

The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS awarded the Fire Service Award for Excellence to the “Prom Promise Assembly-Anti Drunk Driving Initiative” in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. The program involves personnel from the U.S. Army’s Fort George G. Meade Fire Department, the Glenn Dale (MD) Fire Association, the Earleigh Heights (MD) Volunteer Fire Company, and the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. The program includes an inside assembly with presentations by fire personnel and family and friends of drunk driving victims. An outside narrated demonstration features a simulated drunk driving accident and emergency response that includes an extrication scenario and Medevac helicopters.

The HOUSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT purchased 46 Eagle Imager thermal imaging cameras from SCOTT HEALTH & SAFETY. The department worked closely with Scott in refining the cameras and making them user-friendly for the fire industry, and will use the cameras exclusively in all future citywide fire calls.

EMERGENCY ONE promoted Brad Turk to product manager for pumpers and tankers, responsible for development and management of these product lines. Previously, Turk was engineering supervisor of pumper fire apparatus bodies. Jay Fredickson was named regional manager for the upper midwest territory, based in Eagan, Minnesota, and will work with the region’s dealers. Chris Pedde was named regional manager for the south central region, based in Denton, Texas, and will work with the dealer sales team.
