Indianapolis, June 17-The death of Paul Jolliff, a member of the Indianapolis Fire Department whose body was recovered on Friday from a private pond being used for a diving certification training class, is still being investigated by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, according to Captain Mario Garza, Indianapolis Fire Department PIO. “We still don’t know what happened,” Garza said in a phone interview today.
Jolliff and divers from other departments were participating in the diver certification exercise, sponsored by the City of Lawrence Fire Department. The pond is located in Pike Township Fire Department’s jurisdiction. It was the last day of the certification class.
According to media reports, Jolliff and his “buddy” became separated during the exercise. Jolliff’s body had been missing about two hours before it was recovered.
Funeral arrangements are pending and may be finalized tomorrow, Garza said.
