The Walden (NY) Fire Department runs this SPARTAN ER rear-mount aerial as a “dedicated” truck company (no pump or water tank.). Former Chief Paul Pullar says it has a turning radius and outrigger system that allows it to negotiate in a village environment (i.e., narrow streets and tightly packed houses) as well as the more suburban and rural parts of the district. The aerial responds to structure fires, technical rescues, and public service calls.

The Santa Barbara County (CA) Fire Department designed this KME tractor-drawn aerial like a quint, making it self-sufficient, if needed. Captain Mike Klusyk of Support Services says that the aerial is housed with a pumper and is used primarily in a truck company with firefighting capability. In the absence of the pumper, it can respond as an engine. The aerial also does technical rescue as a backup basic/advanced life support unit.

The Cambridge (MA) Fire Department protects a district that sits at the end of the Massachusetts Turnpike and has a tunnel that prohibits hazardous cargo. Deputy Chief Gerard Mahoney says the department’s PIERCE pumper with foam system and large tank is used in one of two engine companies stationed along the truck route which bypasses this tunnel where hazardous materials can travel.
