Woman Survives Jump from George Washington Bridge

Boaters involved in recovery operations on the Hudson River were in the right place at the right time to help out when a women jumped from the George Washington Bridge.

The Record reported that a group of Orthodox Jews and their helpers were in a boat scanning the river for a body when one man saw a body plummet into the water.

According to the report, Scott Koen, 58, a Rutherford (NJ) volunteer firefighter and the boat’s captain, piloted the boat toward the bridge, where rescuers found a 25-year-old injured woman in the water. Divers participating in the search and Orthodox volunteers pulled the woman onto the boat and brought her to shore, where firefighters transported her to an area hospital, the report said.

The report noted that Koen was also involved in the Miracle on the Hudson incident in 2009, when US Airways Flight 1549 landed on the Hudson.
