LORI MILLER was appointed as the first woman chief of an all-career fire department in Colorado, joining just a handful of other women across the country to achieve this elite status. With the departure of former Chief Gary Green, Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District has reached an historic “first” in the state of Colorado. Chief Miller’s 26-year fire service career started at Boulder (CO) Fire Rescue in 1985. She worked her way up through the ranks from firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, captain, assistant fire marshal, and acting battalion chief. She came to Summit County in 2004 as the division chief of training for the Summit Fire Authority, which is managed by Red, White & Blue. Miller then progressed to operational battalion chief, and since 2006 has been the deputy chief of operations for the district.

MARK WALLACE officially became the new Oregon State Fire Marshal on July 1. Wallace has had an extensive and successful background in fire service, most recently as the chief of the McKinney (TX) Fire Department. Wallace was a FEMA-certified instructor of the incident command system and a former lead adjunct instructor at the National Fire Academy, teaching fire and arson investigation in both the resident and field programs. He also has an associate’s degree in fire science technology, a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and master’s in public administration. He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program of the National Fire Academy and is designated a chief fire officer by the Commission on Public Safety Excellence.
