This Grumman 95-foot Aerialcat was delivered to Lima, OH. The unit is built on a Duplex, D-450 chassis with a Detroit diesel engine and an Allison 4-speed transmission. The unit also features a 1,250 gpm single-stage midship mounted pump and a 200 gallon hot dipped galvanized booster tank. The Aerialcat has a three-section, all steel, heavy-duty, 95 foot aerial tower with an aluminum platform designed with a center pivot mounting system which balances the basket, rated to carry a 1,000-pound load aloft, and increases the driver's forward line of vision when down.

American LaFranee has delivered a 1984 Century 75-foot Water Chief to Kendallville, IN. The unit is a four-door sedan model cab with a 1,500 gpm twin flow pump, 500 gallon water tank powered by a Detroit diesel 8V-92TA with Allison automatic transmission. The unit also features a 200-inch wheel base, front axle jacks, duel overhead booster reels, and a five-inch, air-operated front inlet. It has an 18,000 lb. front axle and a 24,000 lb. rear suspension. The pumper also includes a 20-inch coat and boot locker and an extended front bumper with recessed tray for soft suction. Body construction is stainless steel with Imron finish.

The Snohomish County Fire Protection District No. 15, Tulalip Bay, WA, recently took delivery of this Darley Monarch Custom Pumper. Mounted on a Hendrickson chassis with a 6-man forward cab, it has an 8V92TA Detroit diesel engine and Allison HT-740 transmission. The pump is a Darely built Champion three-stage midship SH model rated at 1,500 gpm. Other features include a full array of warning and work lights; an electric rewind for 200 feet of 1-inch hose; a 1,000 gallon tank; top console control panel; and hardwood hose deck. Body construction is 12 gauge alloy steel with custom-built high-side compartments with deluxe flush doors. The lime yellow paint is deluxe urethan.

Seagrave Fire Apparatus initiated delivery of 41 pumpers to the city of Los Angeles, CA. The units were originally bid in November 1983, with the bid being broken down into four categories from nine to 26 vehicles. The initial bid included a Detroit diesel 8V-71 turbo engine and Allison automatic transmission. An addendum was issued for an alternate bid using a Cummins NTC400 engine and Spicer sixspeed transmission. Prior to the award, the quantity was increased to thirty units. This contract held pricing firm for a sixty-day period. Before the expiration of that time frame, an additional 11 units were added, giving a total of 41. Specifications include Rockwell axles front and rear with disc brakes, a Waterous 1,500 GPM two-stage pump and a 500-gallon water tank. The entire unit is manufactured from Galvarmeal sheet metal. The purchase is being funded through a municipal leasing program. Delivery began in June and will continue through October 1.

Wilbraham, MA, is operating their first aerial ladder truck which is also the first Pirsch Skytop 110 Aqua. It was the third 110 foot, new style aerial delivered by Pirsch. Wilbraham, a bedroom community, operates four pumpers, one tanker and one brush unit. But to fulfill an ISO requirement, the aerial was purchased and the model was chosen for added reach. The vehicle is of the rear-mount design with an all aluminum body and Pirsch Model 92 cab. It is powered by a Detroit diesel Model 8V92-DA and has an Allison Model 740 automatic transmission. This model aerial ladder has a piped waterway fed directly from the Hale QSMF 1,500 gpm single stage pump. There is no water tank. Mattydale crosslays are above the pump panel. The truck carries 2,000 feet of 3-inch hose, 200 feet of 2 1/2-inch hose and two 200 foot beds of 1 3/4-inch hose. The apparatus also carries the normal 163 feet of ground ladders.

The newest apparatus in the Horsham, PA, Fire Department is a Pierce Arrow pumper purchased to be a hydrant truck. It is powered by an 8V71 TA Detroit diesel with Allison HT 740 automatic transmission. The pump is a Waterous CMUYBX 1,500 gpm with a recessed front intake behind the front bumper of the cab. This is reported to be the first time Pierce has built this feature. The pump has one 5-inch discharge, three 3-inch discharges and one 2 1/2-inch dump valve. Mattydales consist of 150 feet and 200 feet of 1 1/2-inch hose. The rear hose bed holds 1,000 feet of 5-inch hose, 1,000 feet of 3 inch, 250 feet of preconnected 2 1/2-inch and 250 feet of preconnected 1 3/4-lnch hose. The booster reel Is mounted at the rear. The vehicle carries a 750 gallon water tank. The aluminum cab has a bucket seat for the officer allowing room between him and the driver for an air mask and reference material pertaining to the district.

The Union Fire Company of Leesport in Berks County, PA, has placed a 4 Guys eliptical tanker on a White Truck conventional chassis in service. The stainless steel eliptical tank was chosen in order to afford better maneuverability around turns and to secure a better warranty. The tank holds 2,000 gallons. There is an aluminum hose tray on the left side of the vehicle, two compartments on each side, and one in the rear. A Hale Model 40FD 400 gpm pump is mounted having a 4 1/2-inch suction, and a 3 1/2-inch gated discharge on both sides of the pump. Other connections feature a 3-inch gated tank to pump valve, a 2 1/2-inch tank refill and an 8-inch rear dump valve with butterfly operation. Two 1 1/2-inch gated crosslays with Chic-San swivels are located over the pump. The unit carries a 2,100 gallon Folda-Tank. Warning lights consist of a Federal 12-X light bar, two Federal #14 rear beacons and four 7-inch grill flashers.

The Amoco Oil Refinery in Whiting, IN., is now operating an Emergency-One Protector IV foam pumper. The unit, designated as Engine 13, has a Spartan CFG cab, Detroit 8V71 diesel and Allison HT740 automatic transmission. It has a Hale QSMF 150, 1,500 gpm single stage pump with top mount control. A 750 gallon tank of National XL-3 foam feeds a balanced pressure foam system. The vehicle also carries 2,000 Is. of Purple K dry chemical. A Feecon twin agent turret is midship mounted and in the lower front compartments of each side of the vehicle are one-hundred foot chemical booster lines with Ansul long range nozzles. There is a preconnected front suction connection. A 3 kw generator is carried with two 500 watt quartz floodlights. The vehicle was purchased to better protect the installation. It replaced a 16 year old pumper.

The Bridgeport Fire Department, W. VA, recently put in service this heavy-rescue squad built on a 1983 Mack MC611FC chassis and rescue body by Rescue Systems, Inc. The 33,760 lb. GVW chassis features a 260 horsepower turbo-charged Thermodyne diesel engine with retarder, automatic transmission, hydraulic tilt cab, and aluminum wheels. The department’s response area includes an airport, interstate and rail transportation, so the 20 ft. rescue body was designed to integrate many fire-rescue primary and support functions. The unit's hydraulic system controls a 12 KW electric generator, a 20,000 lb. rear-mounted winch, and a 125 gpm water pump.

Massapequa Fire District, NY, has taken delivery of a Pierce Dash pumper. The custom coe aluminum pumper has a Detroit 6V92TA engine with Allison HT-740 4-speed transmission. The unit carries a Waterous midship mounted 2-stage centrifugal pump. All pump _ controls and gauges are located above the pump to the rear of the walkway. The water tank has a 500 gallon capacity.

Hartford, CT, has placed in service their third telescopic elevating platform. This latest addition becomes their second Sutphen. The unit has an 8V92 TA Detroit diesel engine and FIT 740 Allison automatic transmission. The unit, assigned to Tower 5, has a Hale QSMF 150, 1,500 gpm pump (single-stage) and carries 300 gallons of water. The tower is the 100+ model. Six hundred feet of 3'/2-inch hose is carried at this time. There are four 2 1/2-inch and two 1 3/4-inch discharges on the pump. The 1 3/4-inch discharges are setup for crosslays. Intakes include two 6-inch with two 3 1/2-inch auxiliaries. A 6 kw diesel generator is carried. Hartford, which operates six ladder companies, has now distributed the three towers so that if an aerial ladder has responded on a first alarm, a tower will be due on the second.
