Fire Blanket

The Firecover fire blanket available from American Safety Products, extinguishes small fires and provides upper-body protection while escaping from fires. Reusable and measuring slightly over one square meter (39 inches by 43 inches), it is made of 6-9 micron fiberglass impregnated with graphite and teflon. Firecover suffocates flames because of its low porosity. The blanket’s blend of materials allows it to absorb a substantial amount of heat at temperatures up to 1,500 degrees fahrenheit.

Helmet Tool System

Acorn Products, Inc. introduces the Helmate, a system of tools that affix to the firefighter’s helmet and which includes two disposable lights. The two lights are secured by a mounting bracket. When snapped into place, the lights can be rotated so the light shines where needed, regardless of head position. The lights can also be easily detached with one hand if the firefighter needs to carry a light in one hand. The Helmate also includes a band that secures four disposable Adjust-O-Wedges for use in propping open doors and windows.

Anti-Shock Trousers

Simulaids, Inc. has developed anti-shock trousers with three independent sections, an abdomen and two legs, which can be applied with little movement of the patient. The legs and abdomen are inflated individually and each has its own pressure gauge port and air open/shut valve. Made of reinforced urethane, the transparent trousers permit examination of injury and skin color. The units are easily cleaned with soap and water, and because they are non-absorbent, require no drying. The entire three-piece set and pump assembly fits into a soft Kodel case for convenient storage.
