AFSA reaches 1,000-member mark

In September 2007, the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) reached a significant milestone: the association has 1,000 total dues-paying members for the first time in its history.

“We have enjoyed accelerated membership growth over the past several years,” comments AFSA Director of Membership Lloyd Ivy. “This year we’ve seen tremendous interest in AFSA from fire sprinkler contractors. The rising motivation for contractors to join our association is our technical services department. It is estimated that feedback from contractors has documented that they are saving thousands on jobs by using AFSA’s informal interpretations.”

The 1,000th member company is Anderson Fire Protection, Inc. (AFP) in Elkridge, Md., a full-service fire and life safety contractor in the Baltimore/Washington corridor.

“For many years, we at AFP have been primarily a small independent contractor involved in residential application systems only,” states David Anderson, president. “As we have grown tremendously over the last three years, it has only become very apparent that both from a technical and personnel training viewpoint, we are ill-equipped to deal with the ever-changing marketplace. This is evident even though I personally have over 35 years experience in the industry in all facets. I know that my association and participation at all levels will be beneficial to both our company and to the membership of AFSA as well.”

“We welcome Anderson Fire Protection and all of our new members to the AFSA family,” comments Ivy. “I believe they will soon realize the value of their membership — and find that what they receive in return is worth much more than the cost of their membership.”
