Hydrostatic Tester

General Pump and Equipment Co. Inc. has introduced the Hydro-Test hydrostatic tester. The portable model 6334 can be used for testing pressures up to 250 psi wherever 110 volt power is available. Electric, gasoline or pneumatic powered models for pressures up to 1000 psi are also available.

Smoke Ejector Bracket

Casper Tool & Manufacturing Co. has developed a smoke ejector bracket with a square end to fit over doors and a curved end to fit atop door or window casings. It is made of fabricated steel and measures 6 x 5-inches.

Mobile Amplifier/Chargers

Wilson Electronics, Inc. announces a line of mobile amplifier/chargers, designed to convert Wilson walkie-talkies into mobile or base 2-way radios. The MAC line consists of a VHF unit available in either 40-watt or 80-watt outputs, a UHF model with 50-watt output and a charger-only version.

The units mount under the dash or on the transmission hump, and plastic console mounts are also available. Base operation is accomplished with an external AC to DC power supply.

Major features include broadband design, battery charger, antenna and mike cords, a built-in 5-watt audio amplifier, external speaker connection, a key lock for added security, locking power connectors and an external fuse. An optional encoder is available.

Antennas

Omni-directional 800 MHz base station antennas have recently been developed by The Antenna Specialists Co. for split site repeater, satellite receiver, and multiple transmitter or receiver applications. Model ASPA970 is designed to operate on the 806-821 MHz base station receiver portion of the band. Its companion, Model ASPC970, covers the 851-866 MHz base or mobile transmitter portion of the band. No cutting, tuning or adjusting is required within the specified frequency ranges.

Rated at 150 watts maximum RF power, the new 800 MHz antennas provide 7db gain with a VSWR of less than 1.5:1 over a 15 MHz band width. The antennas feature vertical collinear radiating elements protected by a weatherproof fiberglass radome. A flexible pigtail terminated with a type N male connector is provided for connection to transmission line.

Hook/Handle

Brown & Fulkerson Mfg. Co., Inc., announces the smoke ejector door hook which doubles as a fire hose carrying handle.

This tool is designed to hang smoke ejectors, and flood lights high on doors and ladders. The tool also allows the fire fighter to carry four lengths of 1 1/2-inch hose and becomes a handle on 2 1/2, 3, 4, and 5-inch hose. It is available in a chrome or galvanized finish with a bright yellow plastic handle.

Tank Patch

Vetters Systems has introduced an instant patch for leaking stationary tanks, railway tank cars, and highway tank trucks. This leak-sealing, compressed air bag, measuring 12.5 x 26.8 inches and weighing 12 pounds, comes with a pressure regulator, pressure hose and ratcheted attachment belts.

The bag can be applied to containers with at least 19-inch diameter, and has a working pressure of 21 3/4 psi and an inflation time of under five seconds.

Scanning Flowmeter

Fire Research Corporation has introduced a digital flowmeter that automatically scans up to eight discharges, displaying only those lines that are flowing water.

The flowmeter can be operated either automatically or manually. Lights indicate the distribution of water. A total flow computer adds all flows and displays the sum.

Coupling Tool Rental

Bell & Peel Company, Inc. announces a Fire Department Tool Rental Service for fire departments and chiefs who work with limited budgets. They can now rent a complete hose repair and maintenance kit for recoupling hose in their own station.

The kit includes a hydraulic expander, hose cutter and expansion ring extractor, as well as a choice of three segments.

Powered Ice Auger

Amfire has introduced an ice auger which can put an 8-inch hole through 2 feet of ice in 3 seconds. It is designed to make a drafting hole in ice over static water sources.

The ice auger is 3 feet and 7 inches long with an 8-inch diameter bit. Extensions enable it to penetrate almost any thickness of ice. It attaches to a 1 1/2-inch hose off a pumper.

CPR Pressure Indicator

John Bunn Co. has developed the Harrigon cardiac resuscitator, designed to improve the effectiveness of CPR. The instrument is placed over the lower sternum and an attached gage indicates the amount of pressure applied by the CPR operator.

Power Saw

Homelite, a Division of Textron, Inc. has introduced a 24-pound saw with a 3.5 cubicinch engine. The DM20 model has an adjustable wheel guard that lucks into position. It has a 10,200-rpm engine speed and 5500-rpm cutting wheel speed.

Skid-Mount Pump Unit

Win-Son, Inc. announces the Win-Son Skid-A-Load fire fighting unit.

Standard equipment includes a choice of pump sizes, a 230-gallon fiberglass booster tank and an aluminum electric rewind hose reel. A foam system is optional.

The unit fits any 3/4-ton or larger pickup bed or a 6 or 8-foot utility body with a minimum width of 48 inches.

Four-Band Scanner

Electra has developed the Bearcat Four-Six ThinScan, which can receive any mix of six channels on four bands (high and low VHF, UHF, and UHF “T”). It scans frequencies at the rate of 15 channels per second and has built-in scan delay.

Designed for fire fighters and paramedics, the scanner has recessed controls, anodized aluminum front panel, and a flexible “rubber ducky” antenna. The radio will operate from external power as well as from internal batteries.

An external battery charger, earphone, and external speaker are optional.

Personal Alarm

Lifeline Safety Products, Inc. has developed the personal alarm locator, designed to aid fire fighters who become lost, disoriented or disabled. The unit has an 85-decibel alarm which can be manually activated and a motion detector that automatically sounds the alarm for help. The unit weighs 10 ounces, including a 9-volt battery.

J. Adams and Co. has introduced an all-steel rope winder that is adjustable from 22 to 30 inches.

The rope-winder can be mounted on walls or bench tops and can handle various sizes and lengths of rope.

Four-Wheel Drive Chassis

Mobile Equipment Division of Hendrickson Mfg. Co. has introduced the Series 1871 S 4 X 4, a 4-wheel drive custom fire apparatus chassis which offers hoses in the 172-190-inch range.

The Eaton Model 23121 (4 X 4) axle eliminates the need for a transfer case. The INX-50 frame material reduces chassis bulk and weight.

The 1871 S 4 X 4 is powered by a Detroit Deisel 8V-71N rated at 316 bhp at 2300 rpm. The Allison HT-740-D automatic transmission with high range lockup permits acceleration from 0-50 mph in 33 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
