Crowd Argues While Boy Dies

An excited crowd of anxious spectators hampered rescue efforts and may have caused the death of David Laur, 8, who was pulled from Shadow Lake near Stouffville, Ont., on July 19. As one man, Frank Samon, Jr., of Toronto, attempted to use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, the crowd shoved aside a young lifeguard, Emmett Shundoff, standing beside him and pushed Mr. Samon away. An argument over the best method of resuscitation than ensued and while the crowd milled about, the boy died.
