May Fire Losses

Estimated fire losses in the United States during May amounted to $81,597,000, the National Board of Fire Underwriters has reported.

According to Lewis A. Vincent, NBFU’s general manager, this $81,597,000 loss represents a decrease of 4.7 per cent from losses of $85,633,000 reported for May 1958, and a decrease of 10.0 per cent from losses of $90,689,000 for last April 1959.

Losses for the first five months of 1959 now total $482,999,000, a decrease of 1.7 per cent from the first five months of 1958, when they amounted to $491,187.000.

These estimated losses include an allowance for uninsured and unreported losses.
