UFRA Certified as an International Center of Emergency Techniques Training Site

Provo, UT – The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy, of the Utah Valley State College, has been accredited as a certified International Center of Emergency Techniques Training Site (ICET) training organization. This certification now allows the Academy to present ICET courses in the field of entrapment rescue.

With the input from its own research and development, industrial and academic sources, as well as from the fire and rescue services, ICET created the Systematic Approach to Victim Entrapment Rescue, SAVER. This method is a universal approach to this demanding form of rescue.

ICET’s SAVER method provides a systematic approach and effective scene organization in the extrication of entrapped victims. Every entrapment accident can be dealt with very effectively in seven phases. Each phase has integrated within it the latest technological and medical developments.

The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy will offer two SAVER courses. The SAVER Road Accident Rescue Team course will train participants in the practical, systematic approach for dealing with complex accidents involving entrapment and severe injuries. The Heavy Transport Rescue course will focus on road traffic accidents involving trucks, buses and trains. Each course is three days and will provide the student with plenty of useful information and hands-on experiences.

ICET was founded in 1983 as the International Center of Extrication Techniques. Founding members Jan Meertens and Holmatro had established a need for professional extrication training. ICET’s Robert Walmsley developed a systematic approach to entrapment rescue. ICET became an independent institute in 1996.
