>> The Bethesda-Chevy Chase (MD) Rescue Squad designed this RESCUE 1 heavy rescue vehicle to operate primarily at auto extrications and other special rescue functions, explains Captain Dave Peary. The last three compartments on each side of the truck are the same to allow for operation on either side of a roadway while staying out of traffic.

Features/Equipment:

• SPARTAN Gladiator Classic chassis with 232-inch wheelbase and eight-seat cab with 20-inch raised roof;
• CUMMINS ISX15 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
• 24-foot walk-in body with two wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders and storage rack for 36 spare SCBA cylinders;
• four corner upper body rigging system;
• four fold-down roof access steps;
• DP 10-ton rear winch;
• RAMSEY six-ton front winch and 2½-ton portable winch with three REESE receivers;
• VOYAGER backup camera;
• six AMKUS tools (three on each side) and three portable remote pumps (one is a dual pump), allowing up to 10 tools to be operated simultaneously;
• MEDTRONIC Physio Control AED; and
• light and power with ONAN 30-kw hydraulic pto driven generator, WILL BURT light tower, 12 FRC floodlights (two each brow and on tripods and eight on body), six WHELEN scene lights on body, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

>> The Canadian Forces Base (CFB), Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada, has in service three range firefighting vehicles built by FORT GARRY FIRE TRUCKS. Forestry Superintendent/Fire Control Officer Patrick B. Jones says that these units are used in wildland/urban interface situations as well as to suppress fires in impact/target areas related to live military training. These trucks are part of a large order serving bases throughout the country.

• pump-and-roll capability;
• galvanized Corten Steel 1,000-Imperial gallon water tank (metal tank for protection from tree roots and vegetation when off road);
• two NEWTON 10-inch dump valves;
• WARN six-ton portable winch with front and rear receivers; and
• FEDERAL backup camera.

>> The Sauk Rapids (MN) Fire Department needed a maneuverable rescue truck able to access rural areas, especially farm roads, while being able to carry a vast array of equipment, and which features a command center and a rehab area. Chief Tom Hommerding says this ROSENBAUER rescue serves a suburban area with light commercial and industrial units and multistoried apartments in the city.

• Two-bottle SPACE SAVER fill station and storage rack for 18 spare SCBA cylinders, both accessed from interior and exterior because of climate extremes;
• WARN 4½-ton portable winch with four receivers;
• XRT rescue tools with two HANNAY hydraulic reels in 28-inch extended front bumper;
• ASA electronic backup camera; and
• light and power with ONAN 25-kw pto driven generator, COMMAND LIGHT, six FRC floodlights (two on tripods and four recessed on body), three WHELEN scene lights (one brow and two at rear), and one HANNAY electric cord reel.
