  • The City of Kings Mountain (NC) Fire Department purchased its PIERCE quint to address the need for an aerial ladder to reach taller buildings being developed in the jurisdiction, explains Captain Bobby King.

Features/Equipment:


Dash chassis, 226-inch wheelbase, and six-seat cab;

DETROIT Series 60 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON HD 4060 automatic transmission;

WATEROUS CMU two-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with 11/2-inch front bumper line, three crosslays (two 13/4-inch, one 21/2-inch), and five-inch rear intake;

UPF 500-gallon water tank;

rear DOVER roll-up compartment door;

75-foot heavy-duty aerial ladder with 500-pound tip load, 16-foot outrigger spread, and prepiped waterway with AKRON Stream Master 1,500-gpm ladderpipe;

116 feet of ground ladders; and

light and power with A.M.P.S. six-kw hydraulic generator and four GFE Extenda-Lite floodlights (two each at tip of ladder and midship on body).

  • The Wabash (IN) Fire Department specified midmount design for its KME platform because of height restrictions at the station and on side roads in the jurisdiction, according to Chief Tim Niccum. Ad-ditionally, members preferred the midmount’s overall layout compared to that of a the rearmount.

Excel chassis, 244-inch wheelbase, and 10-inch raised roof medium-four-door cab with six seats;

DETROIT Series 60 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON HD 4060P automatic transmission;

HALE 8FG single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with five-inch discharge to aerial and two 13/4-inch crosslays;

UPF 200-gallon water tank;

95-foot five-section platform with 1,000-pound capacity, -12 to +80 degree range of elevation, 18-foot outrigger spread, and two AKRON Stream Master monitors (one each electric and manual) at end of waterway; and light and power with SMART POWER eight-kw PTO generator, two GFE Extenda-Lite floodlights toward the rear of the body, and two HAVIS SHIELDS floodlights on platform.

  • The Jackson (AL) Fire Department purchased this EMERGENCY ONE pumper tanker to protect its district, 30 percent of which is rural, according to Chief Neal Bradley.

Features/Equipment:

Cyclone II chassis with 230-inch wheelbase and six seats;

CUMMINS ISM 500-hp diesel engine with ALLISON HD 4060 automatic transmission;


HALE QSMG single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with three crosslays (two 13/4-inch, one 21/2-inch), one 11/2-inch front bumper line, two rear 21/2-inch discharges, and prepiped AKRON Apollo deck gun;

EMERGENCY ONE 3,000-gallon poly water tank with two 21/2-inch direct pipe fills next to a NEWTON rear 10-inch dump valve; and

lighting with two FEDERAL Nightfighters and six WHELEN fixed scene lights on body.
