Knoxville (TN) Firefighters Return from Assisting with South Carolina Floods

Knoxville (TN) firefighters have returned from their efforts to assist flood-ravaged areas in South Carolina.

A report on WATE told of some of the challenges vounteers faced, including flooded roads and homes, major water lines breaking, and loss of water to hospitals.

Three firefighters spoke of their experiences to WATE.

“It was overwhelming just to look at what was going on before our eyes and the things that transpired after we got there,” said Gary Compton, deputy chief of operations.

Nearly 100 people and almost two dozen boats from Tennessee were sent to South Carolina. The reported noted that two of the firefighters from Knoxville were out on boats helping with search and rescue operations.
