Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA) EQUIPMENT WEIGHT AND CUBE CALCULATOR SOFTWARE allows for safer fire apparatus and compliance with NFPA 1901. Determines the total weight and volume of the equipment carried on apparatus and that of loose equipment carried in each compartment. Permits efficient development of new apparatus design requirements and prevents overloading of vehicles already in the field. Helps avoid overloading individual apparatus compartments or overall apparatus itself. Microsoft Excel spreadsheet includes weight and cubic space requirements for more than 600 categories of loose fire firefighting equipment. Users define specific apparatus compartments and select the type and count of loose equipment included in each compartment. Additional worksheets are included for engines, aerials, and rescue vehicles. Available as a free download from FAMA’s Web site: www.fama.org. (NFPA will also include an abbreviated version of the information as an appendix in the next version of NFPA 1901.) (781) 334-2911.

The units include specifically configured exterior compartments with rollup doors, adjustable shelves, and pullout trays. A 14-foot E-One extruded aluminum body combines exterior storage compartments with interior working space. Driver’s side compartments include a tank of decontamination solution, a pump, and an extendable decontamination showerhead for incidents involving chemical/biological agents; personal protective gear; SCBA; and other specialized sensors and equipment. Forward passenger’s side compartment is six feet deep and equipped with two 500-pound-capacity pullout trays for the heavy padded bomb suits; other compartments store rope, rigging, X-ray equipment, hand tools, and other small gear. A small work table pulls out from the body. The rear of the body has two walk-in access doors to the interior with a full-length ramp that can be pulled out from under the floor to deploy a remote-controlled bomb disposal robot. Lonseal’s LONDURA FLOOR SAFETY SURFACE is an essentially homogeneous friction-texture that won’t disintegrate from the floor over time, unlike carborundum-mix, aluminum-oxide chip, and other heterogeneous particle safety surfaces. A multipolymer micro-em-bossed matrix (comprised of vinyl and a special polymer developed exclusively for Lonseal), Londura increases its coefficient of friction when wet. Won’t shred mops and leave behind debris after cleaning for easier maintenance and slip-resistant under more varied conditions. Antimicrobial smooth sheet-vinyl production simplifies installation and facilitates seam welding for sterile slip-fighting floors in any spaces. Brush-stroke colors and custom coloring available.
