James Golinveaux Receives 2014 Henry S Parmelee Award

In recognition of his work to advance the fire sprinkler industry, James Golinveaux, senior fellow of water suppression products, Tyco Fire Protection Products, was presented the American Fire Sprinkler Association’s (AFSA) highest honor, the Henry S. Parmelee Award. The award was presented by Joe Heinrich, chairman of the AFSA Board of Directors and president of Bamford Fire Sprinkler Co., Salina, Kansas, on September 30, during the AFSA’s 33rd Annual Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla.

The Henry S. Parmelee Award was created in 1983 to recognize outstanding individuals for their dedication to the professional advancement of the fire sprinkler industry and to improving fire safety through automatic sprinklers. Golinveaux was nominated by the AFSA Board of Directors in recognition of his many accomplishments in the fire protection industry developing advancements in water-based fire protection devices and systems.

Golinveaux began his career in 1982 as a trainee in fire sprinkler system layout. In 1991, Central Sprinkler, which later became part of Tyco Fire Protection Products, recruited him to become their director of Technical Services. Since that day, he has become well known for his work in the research and design of sprinklers and for pushing the edges of technology to improve the industry. He has been involved in a number of significant industry advancements, particularly involving larger K factor sprinklers and special application sprinklers, and he currently holds 50 U.S. and foreign patents, and has 38 applications pending.

Golinveaux has been a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and a member of the NFPA 13 Technical Committee for over 20 years. In addition to serving on many NFPA technical committees, he is a subject matter expert contributing to the past two editions of NFPA Fire Protection Handbook and NFPA 13 Handbook, and he sits on the NFPA Standards Council.

Golinveaux has served on AFSA’s Technical Advisory Council (TAC) for many years. He also has a seat on the AFSA Manufacturers/Suppliers (M/S) Council and currently serves as its chairman. Golinveaux has presented seminars at several AFSA conventions and been the featured speaker for AFSA webinars. Visit firesprinkler.org
