February 1-2—A two-day seminar on BUILDING CONSTRUCTION FOR FIREFIGHTERS will be taught at Valencia College in Orlando, Fla. The seminar, conducted by Frank Brannigan, will cover vital construction principles for combustible buildings ranging from log cabins to multiple-family dwellings. February 2-4—The first NATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS SKI RACE will be held at the Breckenridge Ski Area in Breckenridge, Colo. Qualifying races will be on the first day; racers will be categorized by their qualifying times, as well as age, gender, and ability. There are races for all skiing levels. Championship races are scheduled for the second day. Proceeds from entries in a team hose race will be given to the Redmond Foundation and the Fallen Firefighters Fund. February 12—Hazco Services Inc. will sponsor a HAZARDOUSWASTE-SITE SUPERVISORS AND MANAGERS COURSE. The eight-hour course, which will be at the Bergamo Conference Center in Dayton, Ohio, is for supervisors who have completed an approved 40-hour personnel protection and safety course as mandated by OSHA. Topics include a review and update on OSHA hazardous-waste-site regulations; safety and risk management procedures; implementation of site safety plans; selection of levels of protection for waste site personnel; and proper management of waste site activities. February 15—An eight-hour REFRESHER COURSE FOR HAZARDOUS-MATERIALS WORKERS will be held at the Bergamo Conference Center in Dayton, Ohio. The course is a condensed version of Hazco Services Inc.’s 40-hour Hazardous Materials Personnel Protection and Safety Course. Topics include hazard recognition, toxicology, instrumentation, and personal protective equipment and procedures. See February 12 entry for registration contact.

March 26-30—The 1988 FIRE DEPARTMENT INSTRUCTORS CONFERENCE, sponsored by the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio. The conference, entitled “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow—Your Choice,” will feature training and educational exhibits, speakers, seminars, training clinics, and a preconference seminar on steel construction by Frank Brannigan. For members, there will be elections, the annual business meeting, and individual section meetings. Seminar topics include Hazardous Materials Training Exercises—Doing It the Right Way; Early Alarm and Senior Citizen Safety; Sexual Harassment; and the Fire Chief’s Responsibility in Training Company Officers.
