A feature-length documentary film is being produced about the 2003 Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island.
Inspired by the book From the Ashes by Gina Russo and Paul Lonardo, filmmaker David Bettencourt will examine the fire and the many people who were affected by the deadly fire. The film, titled The Station, will be released on February 20, 2013.
The producers have recently gone public with a public funding platform for the film, which can be found at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1343849466/the-station.
Contributors will be given complimentary gifts, credits in the film, shared links, anything that might help spread the word of fire safety precautions and your business while helping producers make this film, according to an e-mail from Paul Lonardo. The funding will be used for the purchasing of copyrighted music and songs for use in the film as well as for travel outside the region to speak with interviewees.
A portion of The Station’s proceeds will go toward procuring the land at 211 Cowesett Ave. in West Warwick, as well as the construction and perpetual maintenance of a permanent memorial on the site. Producers will be working in conjunction with The Station Fire Memorial Foundation to meet this goal.
The 2003 fire at The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island, left 100 dead and many more injured, one of the worst nightclub fires in the history of the United States.
