Vapor Polisher

Scott Aviation has developed a vapor polisher which removes scratches from polycarbonate lenses. This portable unit, weighing 16-ounces, operates on standard 120V AC power, using a thermo statically controlled heating element. The polisher comes with a support stand, cleaning and polishing materials, and a carrying case.

Compressor Package

Bauer Breathing Air, Inc. has just introduced an air stream twin compressor package.

This unit produces 34cfm at 5000 psi. An 18-cfm unit is also available.

Exhaust Fans

Ziamatic Corp. has developed a line of smoke exhaust fans that can move up to 5400 cfm.

These Quic-Eject fans are available in two fan diameters, 16-inch and 18-inch and come with standard or explosion-proof electric motors. The 1/3 hp ball bearing motors include automatic overload protection and can operate off standard 115-volt AC outlets or any 2000-watt generator. DC models are also available. Safety features include tightly spaced grill rings and enclosed wiring.

In addition to mounting devices, holders, and vinyl covers, a collar adapter for flexible duct applications can also be supplied.

Hose

A 4 1/2-inch, 500-psi test hose has been added to the line of Triple-Duty hose manufactured by National Fire Hose Corporation. A 100-foot length packs into a 26-inch diameter coil.

The hose is available with expansion ring threaded fittings. National also manufactures Triple-Duty hose in 4 and 5-inch sizes with threaded or Storz-type couplings.

Automatic Terminals

Reach Electronics, Inc. has developed Interlink terminals that provide two-way radio and telephone line interconnection and allow for direct dialing. They can interconnect to any two-way radio and respond to DTMF signals for control purposes, according to the manufacturer.

Desk-mount or rack-mount versions are available. Options include: 5-Line select, repeater select, mandatory telephone line access code, long distance inhibit on DTMF to dial pulse converter board only and 220volt operation.

Saws

Federal-Mogul Corp. has introduced five new models of the Quickie gasoline-powered saws. The models include 4,5, and 6-cubicinch, single cylinder, two-cycle, air-cooled engines. The saw accepts high speed reinforced abrasive blades.

Horn/Strobe Light

Wheelock Signals offers a series of audible/visual signaling devices for use in buildings that combines a low current drain and high output horn with a strobe light.

A flash tube, with a rated life of 200 hours of continuous use operates at 1-3 flashes per second with 8000 candlepower per flash.

A low power strobe horn is available in 6, 12, 24 or 48 VDC and 115 VAC. It draws 1.5 watts and provides sound level rating of 90-95 dba. Polarized versions are available for supervision.

A semi-flush mount version and flush mount versions with either horizontal or vertical lenses are available with mounting accessories. Red is the standard finish and the lenses can be imprinted with any message.

Sirens

Autotronic Products, Inc. has announced the development of a new family of electronic sirens. Model 5039 is a compact, high-power unit, designed with solid state digital circuitry to project warning signals through high noise conditions. Its amplifier has the power to drive two loudspeakers. Signal functions include fingertip control of siren, wail, yelp, hi-lo, as well as public address and radio broadcast. The siren can be instantly activated either by pushbutton or by auxiliary horn/foot switch.

This electronic siren can be mounted either under the dashboard or on the transmission tunnel. Standard features include attached magnetic noise-cancelling microphone, mounting hardware and optional 58/100 watt speakers.

Portable Floodlight

A portable light with a self-contained generator is now available from Specialty Lighting, Inc. The Eng-N-Lite Model 2181, designed for fire and rescue, features a lightweight engine that operates a high intensity floodlight or spotlight for one hour on one tank (1 pt. ) of fuel. The total unit weighs 14 1/2 -pounds.

Building Alarm Unit

Wheelock Signals offers an audio speaker/flashing strobe light 800 series for building installation which provides both voice and tone signaling and a flashing light. The audio output has three field selectable power levels that can be driven by 25 VRMS or 70.7 VRMS at 0.4W, 2W and 6W.

The sound output is rated over the frequency range of 400 to 4000 Hz when connected to the correct amplifier. It features a loudspeaker with a built-in matching transformer. The independently controlled visual signal is available in 24-VDC or 115VAC versions and utilizes a xenon flash-tube with a flash rate of 1-3 flashes per second. It has a peak light intensity of 100,000 lumuns.

Encoder

Reach Electronics, Inc. has developed manual encoders designed to work in most two-tone sequential systems. The number of available codes can be doubled by adding a second code format. With standard group call, you can contact a selected group as well as individuals.

Weighing three-pounds, the encoder is available in three models: a single tone, 40-code model and a pair of two-tone models with 100 and 900-code capabilities with optional second axle format.

Hose Roller

The Michigan Fire Rescue Equipment Corp. has developed the EZ-Roller, a unit that can roll a 50-foot length of hose in six seconds.

Weighing under 20-pounds, this roller fits standard mounts and rolls male or female coupling in the core as well as double rolls.

The roller guide locks in position and swings away after use for storage. The handle automatically repositions itself for the next hose.

Gauze Tape

Cohesive gauze Saf-T-Tape is now offered by Direct Safety Company. Self-adhering, the tape is used on fingers, hands or wrists to protect injury-sensitive skin against burns and cuts. It can also serve as a protective measure when handling sharp, rough objects. The tape is available in 30-yard rolls, % or 1-inch wide strip sizes and in regular or oilresistant gauze.

Fingers retain full sensitivity while the tape is worn, according to the manufacturer.

Transceivers

Spectrum Communications Corp. has introduced its line of fire ancf police mobile transceivers.

The PCL 250 mobile unit and the PCL 30C base station are 30-watt transceivers with a 136-174 MHz range. Features include .3uV sensitivity, 8 pole crystal and 4 pole ceramic filters and 6 channels.

The PCL 300 base station has a built-in AC power supply with optional auto-switchover to DC battery power, front panel status indicator lights, optional receiver scanning function, pre-amp desk or hand-held microphone and wood grain housing.

Night Light

A 12-volt DC Nite Lite with a magnetic base has been developed by Richway Industries. The Model NL-2 has four lights, each with a 20-foot cord with a special plug. The switchbox has a plug-in socket and switch for each Nite Lite and a master switch. There is a 15-foot power cord to run from the switchbox to the battery.

A carrying panel, as well as other models and accessories, are available.

Radio-Controlled Monitor

Vita Line Inc. has introduced the LF 128-4 radio-controlled central monitoring receiver. Equipped with a digital readout, the receiver displays up to 128 locations and four types of emergencies.

The battery powered unit can extend to a central station through the use of telephone dialers, McCullough loop and other reporting devices.

Mobile Radio

Tamaphone Corp. of America has developed an aluminum, diecast, integral frame/ chassis 450-512 MHz mobile-base FM transceiver, Model U-4520.

The metal casting provides efficient thermal transfer to minimize losses of transmitting power.

It has a transmission output of 20-watts. The U-4520 has six channels, with 25 kHz spacing and a maximum spread of 2 MHz. External power sources can be either 13.8 Vdc (±10 percent) or 110/220VAC with rectification. It operates over a -30°C to +60°C ambient temperature range.

Its cabinet measures 6.85 x 2.13 x 8.86inches and weighs 5.5 pounds.

Brake Leak Detector

Techsonics has developed the Son-Tector, a brake system leak detector that uses ultrasonic detection methods.

The detector can locate the cause of a leak rapidly, thus saving man-hours, according to the manufacturer.

The Son-Tector 112 package has other uses including tire testing, diesel injector testing, and hydraulic equipment analysis.

Eductor System

Fire Research Corporation announces its round-the-pump foam eductor system, which controls concentrate flows from 3 to 20 gpm. This system will work against incoming pressures up to 80 psi. Special systems are available for over 100 gpm of concentrate.

Turbine

Amfire Industries, Inc. has introduced the Hydro Pak, a water turbine power source for operating hydraulic extrication and cutting tools. It is completely water-powered and operates at 50 psi.

When the water supply is limited, water that powers the unit can be recirculated to the tank. Weighing 6-pounds, the turbine can be retrofitted in the field to a hydraulic pump.

Portable Pump

Weda Pump Inc. has designed a submersible fire brigade pump for plant and institutional services.

This pump has a quick-release coupling for the hose. It pumps up to 150 gpm with a head of up to 50 feet. The L150 fire pump can be used as a backup to conventional sprinkler and other fire prevention systems.

Chain Saw

Jonsereds has introduced the Model 510SP chain saw. It has a 3 cubic inch engine and weighs 10Vi-pounds with a 16-inch bar. It is equipped with electronic ignition, gear-driven automatic oiler, anti-vibration, safety throttle-interlock, front and rear hand guards. The semi-automatic choke is activated to shut off after the engine is started.

Firetac Systems has developed a magnetic lettering kit for making title slides.

Ladder Brackets

High-tensile aluminum alloy brackets to secure folding ladders to fire apparatus have been developed by Ziamatic Corp.

The Z1CO folding ladder brackets make it possible to store folding ladders to any long flat surface of the vehicle. The brackets are designed to hold the ladders horizontally or vertically. Two models are available, with hardware and complete instructions.

Antenna Specialists Co. has developed a series of omni-directional VH F base station gain antennas designed to withstand severe weather. The ASP-685 series antennas, using a four-element, vertically-polarized collinear array and a 2%-inch mast support, have a wind rating of 144 mph with a 1.65 safety factor.

Three models arc available: ASPA685 (150-159 MHz), ASPB685 (155-164 MHz) and ASPC685 (164-174 MHz). All feature a minimum of 5.25 dB gain and have a maximum RF power rating of 350-watts.

Central Station System

Simplex Time Recorder Co. has added a comprehensive central station system to their Life Alarm 2001 life safety system.

Life Alarm 2001 combines automatic alarm and heat/smoke sensing functions with emergency voice communication and is designed to be a building command control center.

For high-rise buildings, the Life Alarm functions include master box connection to a municipal fire alarm circuit, annunciator screen aid first-in fire companies, broadcast of recorded instructions to occupants and a two-way phone system.
