The South Hill (VA) Volunteer Fire Department added a pump and tank to its KME platform to make it more self-sufficient when they replaced an older, used 75-foot unit. Deputy Chief Michael Vaughan says the platform responds to rescues, fires, and special emergencies within a 110-square-mile area of diversified occupancies. The platform is longer for reach rather than height, and includes belowgrade capabilities.

- Predator MFD chassis with 259-inch wheelbase and a six-seat, 10-inch raised-roof cab with a custom EMS cabinet;
- CUMMINS ISX 15 600-hp diesel engine;
- WATEROUS CSU S100 single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with two 1¾-inch crosslays behind the pump house in the body;
- UPF 300-gallon water tank;
- 100-foot platform with a -12° to + 80° elevation, a 500-pound wet and 1,000-pound dry payload, and an 18-foot outrigger spread;
- KME designed 3-N-1 platform rescue bracket system (rappelling rig, Stokes restraint system, and parapet roof ladder);
- two TFT Monsoon platform monitors (one Monsoon RC electric and one manual);

The Crystal Lake Fire Company (Ellington, Connecticut) protects a lake region community with many narrow roads. Chief Chuck Pippin says the department’s HME-AHRENS FOX mini-pumper is a first-out unit that can easily negotiate these areas. Besides fire calls, the mini-pumper responds to medical calls and motor vehicle accidents.

The Whitehorse (Yukon, Canada) Fire Department uses this FORT GARRY FIRE TRUCKS Crusader pumper/tanker as a first-out unit for structure and wildland fires outside of the department’s hydranted areas, says Firefighter Oliver Halickman. The unit also responds with the department’s rescue truck to these areas for motor vehicle accidents, hazmats, and so on, and provides mutual aid to several rural fire departments.
