>> CUMMINS INC. announced the approval of biodiesel B20 blends for use in its 2002 and later emissions-compliant ISX, ISM, ISL, ISC and ISB engines, including the recently released 2007 products. Cummins previously limited the use of biodiesel fuel to B5 blends only. The change resulted from the American Society of Testing Materials specification ASTM D6751, which now includes an important stability specification for B100 biodiesel, the increased availability of quality fuels from BQ-9000 certified marketers and accredited producers, and Cummins’ completion of the necessary testing and evaluations to ensure that customers can reliably operate their equipment using B20 fuel.

>> CALFIRE (formerly the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection or CDF) and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) increase its initial 2006 order of 42 ROSENBAUER wildland pumpers to 69. Each wildland pumper will be built on an International 7400 4 × 4 chassis and will be equipped to carry a five-person crew. Features include a 500-gallon UPF poly tank, a Darley JMP 500 two-stage main pump, a Darley 1 1/2 AGE auxiliary pump, a FoamPRO Class A foam system, and a special spring-mounted body system that withstands CALFIRE’s stringent flexing requirements. CALFIRE responds to an average of 5,600 wildfire fires annually and protects 31 million acres of land and property.

The Fort Worth (TX) Fire Department accepted delivery of its 50th Rosenbauer pumper. The newest pumpers are built on Spartan chassis with rear-mounted S100 Waterous fire pumps, and equipped with CAFS, low-profile crosslays, a front bumper discharge, and body compartments designed at full height and depth for maximum storage. The Fort Worth design features a completely open pump compartment and simplified pump panel. Discharge valves and respective gauges are located at the actual outlet locations instead of in the pump compartment, which permits easy servicing, reduced maintenance, and limited downtime.

Miami-Dade (FL) Fire Rescue has entered into a five-year contract with Rosenbauer to provide replacement trucks for its aging fleet. After a lengthy specification and bid process, Rosenbauer was awarded the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue contract in November 2005. Since then, the company has delivered 11 aerial-pumpers and two ladders. These trucks have replaced the county’s aging fleet of Telesqurt pumpers.

Both the cab and chassis are produced by Spartan and aerial devices are built using a hot-dipped galvanized process which virtually eliminates rust and oxidation on steel ladders. Each comes equipped with a tip monitor and nozzle that directs water upward at 80°.
