Chemical Resistant Fiber
Celanese Fibers Operations has started commercial production of polybenzimidazole (PBI), a high temperature and chemical resistant fiber, as a staple fiber at a one-million-pounds-per-year facility at its Celriver plant near Rock Hill.
In addition to thermal properties and chemical resistant characteristics, fabrics of PBI do not burn in air or melt, have very low shrinkage at high temperature, are abrasion resistant and retain their flexibility after exposure to heat or flames.
