• The Shawinigan Lake (BC) Fire Department needed to replace a pumper and needed an aerial device to reach numerous new multistoried buildings, according to Chief Glen Sanders. This SUTPHEN Mini Tower has a low-profile design to accommodate a low station door height.

Features/Equipment:

custom chassis, 210-inch wheelbase, and full tilt cab with six seats;

  • CATERPILLAR C12 455-hp diesel engine with ALLISON HD 4060PR automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 1,500-gpm pump with three 11/2-inch crosslays and prepiped waterway to aerial;
  • CFP 400-gallon water tank;

• The Levant (ME) Fire Department designed its AMERICAN LAFRANCE rescue truck with preconnected hydraulic and electric lines for extrication/lighting. The crew module can be used for rehab and to keep a victim out of the cold until an ambulance arrives, according to Chief Kevin Peary.

• The Avon (CT) Fire Department protects an affluent community that has three ridges that run north-south and numerous hills. Deputy Chief Bruce Appell says this GENERAL SAFETY aerial ladder truck was designed for maneuverability and for deployment in driveways and on hills.

• The Fort Irwin (CA) Fire Department replaced a pumper with this EMERGENCY ONE quint. According to Captain Ray Smith, the department wanted the versatility of a pump and ladder on one vehicle because of limited staffing. The new unit also has a larger pump.

  • Model HP 100-foot aerial ladder with 750-pound tip load (dry) and 500-pound tip load (wet) and 12-foot outrigger spread;
  • AKRON Stream Master 1,000-gpm monitor at end of waterway; and
  • light and power with GEN-PRO 5.5-kw hydraulic generator and two HAVIS SHIELDS pole-raise floodlights on back of cab.
