Detective/Lieutenant Eugene Schmitt was presented the “Michigan Fire Inspector of the Year Award” by the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society.
A member of the State Police Department since 1964, Schmitt was assigned to the Fire Marshal Division in 1973. He earned a BS degree from Wayne State University, and is currently assigned to Fire Marshal Division Headquarters at Lansing, Mich., as the commander of the Hazardous Materials Storage Facilities Unit Chief R.B. W.L. Hayden has been appointed chief of the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Fire Department A graduate of the Ontario Fire College and a 27 year member of the department. Chief Hayden has risen through the ranks as lieutenant, captain, platoon chief, training director, and deputy chief.
Kenneth W. Mitten has been appointed Fire Chief for the City of Merced, California
Mitten began with the Whittier Fire Department in 1965, coming to Merced in 1966 He was promoted to Fire Engineer in 196B, Fire Captain in 1974, Director of Training/Battalion Chief in 1976, Deputy Fire Chief in 1980 and has been Acting Chief since March 1982
