Joe Cosgrove Retires

Joseph F. Cosgrove has announced his retirement as publisher of Technical Publishing Company’s Fire Engineering, effective April 1, 1983. Cosgrove had headed the magazine since September 1970 after having held a number of other key positions since first joining the company in 1947. While Cosgrove and his wife, Nonette, will be spending time together at their Connecticut home, he has agreed to serve Fire Engineering in a consulting capacity for the next year.

At the same time it was announced that Glenn D. Usdin has joined Fire Engineering in the new position of sales and marketing manager, according to M. Richard Vinocur, group publisher. Usdin previously founded and published a regional publication in the field.

For over nine years Usdin served on one of New York State’s busiest volunteer fire departments in Massapequa, L.l. He has also been a consultant for the insurance industry as an arson expert. Usdin is an accomplished fire photographer, and a member of the National Fire Protection Association, the International Association of Arson Investigators, International Society of Fire Service Instructors, and the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs.

Usdin will be traveling throughout the country dealing with fire service manufacturers and fire service organizations.

Largest Breathing Air Compressor

The Mt. View Fire Department in California has installed the largest breathing air compressor on the West Coast. The 31 cfm, 5000-psi water-cooled compressor is capable of filling SCBA bottles from 0 to 4,500 psi in 90 seconds.

Operation of the RIX 3k3B-44 compressor is completely automatic and purified oil-free air is delivered continuously. System use is increased by two 430 cu. ft., 5,000 psi A.S.M.E. air storage cylinders and a charging station able to fill two bottles at the same time.

Two Workers Killed, Another Injured in Explosion at Atlanta Delta Air Lines Facility

Two workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion Tuesday at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near the Atlanta airport.
