The Leesburg (OH) Fire Department uses this ROSENBAUER pumper as a first-out unit for extrication, explains Firefighter/EMT Carey A. Westenkirchner. It has a top-mount pump panel for operator safety. Because of the area’s limited water supply, the apparatus has a large water tank and is supported by water tenders.


Features/Equipment:

  • FREIGHTLINER M2 chassis with 265-inch wheelbase and five-seat cab;
  • MERCEDES MBE 320-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qflo single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with top-mount panel, HYPRO Foam Pro 1600 system, and two 1½-inch speedlays;
  • UPF 1,000-gallon water and 20-gallon foam tanks;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • HURST rescue tools;
  • ZOLL AED Plus for on scene emergencies; and
  • two FRC telescoping spot/floodlights and two FRC rear spotlights.


The Westby (MT) Rural Fire District uses this DANKO brush unit as a first-out truck, responding to mostly grass fires in the very rural district, explains Assistant Chief Lyndon Lagerquist. The truck provides the necessary power and mobility for the area’s tough terrain.

  • FORD F-550 Super Duty 4 × 4 chassis with 141-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • FORD 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine with automatic transmission;
  • WATEROUS PB 18-2515 single-stage, 75- to 150-gpm auxiliary pump with 20-hp HONDA engine, HY-pRO Foam Pro 1601 system, one-inch hose reel, and ELKHART Sidewinder bumper turret operated remotely from cab;
  • UPF 500-gallon water and 12-gallon foam tanks; and
  • WARN six-ton front mounted winch.


The Columbus (OH) Fire Department designed its MARION hazmat truck with an improved research area and a customized body to hold tents, decon equipment, PPE, and containment equipment, explains Captain Bill Brobst. The vehicle replaced a used beverage truck and old rescue truck used for hazmat response.

  • light and power with ONAN 10-kw hydraulic generator, WILL BURT Night Scan, and 10 WHELEN fixed scene lights.
