The Woodlands Township (TX) Fire Department designs its truck company apparatus as quints to maintain its ISO Class 1 rating. Deputy Chief Doug Adams says the department has five engines and four quints. Its new PIERCE is housed with an engine, but it is primarily a ladder company. The unit can be used interchangeably and will respond to any call to which it is closest.

Features/Equipment:

  • Velocity chassis with a 175-inch tractor wheelbase and a 61½-foot overall length;
  • Five-seat cab with an EMS cabinet and a 10-inch raised roof;
  • CUMMINS ISX 15 525-hp diesel engine;
  • WATEROUS CXC 20 1,250-gpm, single-stage pump with two 1¾-inch crosslays;
  • UPF 300-gallon water tank;
  • 107-foot Ascendant model aerial ladder with a 750-pound tip load and a 17-foot outrigger spread;
  • TFT Typhoon ladder monitor;
  • AMDOR roll-up compartment doors;
  • 158 feet of ground ladders;
  • 32 storage sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders within two compartments;
  • SAFETY VISION backup camera;
  • HOLMATRO rescue tools;
  • PHILLIPS AED; and
  • light and power with a HARRISON six-kw hydraulic generator, FRC floodlighting, WHELEN scene lighting, and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The Syracuse-Hancock International Airport, Syracuse, New York, uses this aircraft rescue and firefighting unit built by STONEWELL BODIES to respond to fire, emergency medical services, elevator, and aircraft emergencies, says Captain Zach Smith. The unit is also used as a command center for large-scale incidents.

  • FORD V-10 gasoline engine;
  • 10-foot body with AMDOR roll-up compartment doors; and

The Wanamassa Fire Company, Ocean Township, New Jersey, placed in service this water rescue/utility unit built by EMERGENCY VEHICLES, INC. Deputy Fire Marshal Dean Schoch says the unit replaces an old converted ambulance and is custom designed for its use. It responds to water rescues, hazmats, and de-watering calls.

Features/Equipment:

  • FORD F-550 XL Super Duty 4 × 4 chassis with a 205-inch wheelbase and five-seat cab;
  • FORD 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine;
  • 13-foot body with ROM roll-up compartment doors and ZICO rear access ladder;
  • COMPOZITE 12,000-pound davit crane stored in two pieces in a compartment on top of the body (it is assembled to lift a larger boat than the one shown);
  • ACHILLES 10-foot inflatable boat with a JOHNSON 15-hp outboard motor;
  • Front-mounted WARN six-ton winch and a rear receiver for a larger winch that is carried on the department’s rescue truck;
  • HONDA trash pump;
  • life preservers;
  • STOKES basket;
  • inflatable rescue hose; and
  • light and power with a POWER TECH
    7.8-kw diesel generator, four FRC
    telescoping floodlights, WHELEN scene lights, a HANNAY electric cord reel, and a HONDA two-kw gen light.
