Drill: The Fireground Playbook: Roadway Safety Zones

Firefighter training drill by Forest Reeder

Roadway incident safety training drill

Roadway operations are among the most hazardous types of responses for firefighters. Use of apparatus as a shield from traffic and improved visibility of crew members with reflective vests have helped reduce the number of injuries and accidents that occur. Cones, barricades, electric and portable signage also assist in the establishment of safe work zones. Coordinated efforts with law enforcement, EMS, traffic control, and vehicle recovery units is essential in achieving the objectives of each group. Review your local traffic management plan for guidance in determining these playbook duties. Use the attached template for discussion of proper positioning
