Ten years ago, on February 20, 2003, fire broke out at a nightclub in Warwick (RI). The tragic and now infamous blaze, which came to be known as The Station Nightclub Fire, resulted in the loss of 100 lives, 200 people injured, and 65 children losing one or both of their parents.
There were no fire sprinkler systems in the nightclub.
That fact is hard for us to accept at Tyco. As a company dedicated to advancing safety and security, tragedies like The Station Nightclub Fire hit especially hard. Sadly, devastating fires are not confined to North America. Over the years there have been far too many similar tragedies around the world – just last month a fire at a nightclub in Santa Maria, Brazil claimed 237 lives, and as many press reports indicate could likely have been prevented.

We are all dedicated to making disasters like these a thing of the past. That’s why, when Tyco was recently approached by a team of independent filmmakers looking for our support on a project to film a documentary about The Station Nightclub Fire, we listened.
The filmmakers’ goal is to produce a movie that helps inform people about what happened that night in 2003, educates the public about the importance of fire protection systems in nightclubs and other public places, and also honors the lives of those lost in the fire.
Each episode runs about 10-12 minutes, and I invite you to join me in taking the time to watch this important film.
