The Plainview (NE) Rural Fire Protection District protects a rural community with mostly gravel roads and farms. Chief Mike McManaman says this SMEAL pumper has a lighter chassis and cab to negotiate rural areas and carries a folding water tank to receive water from tanker shuttles.

The Junction City (KS) Fire Department replaced its rescue truck (which had no pump) with this PIERCE rescue pumper designed for firefighting and rescue tool transport, explains Captain Matt Jackson. The rear-mounted pump allows for increased storage space.
