Rescue Tool

An emergency rescue system for extricating victims from crashed vehicles has been developed by Walker Manufacturing Company.

The system, called Rescue Gator, consists of seven basic components: spreader, air/ hydraulic pump, carrying cage, air regulator, air hose, hydraulic hose and two chains with a double grab hook. The six-ton capacity spreader is powered by a 10-ton ram activated by a specially designed air/hydraulic pump. The case for holding and carrying standard breathing apparatus cylinders has a pre-set pressure regulator with the necessary connector hoses.

The unit is operated by air pressure sources such as 2200 and 4500 psi SCBA cylinders. A pre-set pressure regulator reduces the operating pressure to 150 psi. The air pressure operates an air/hydraulic pump which provides hydraulic pressures of up to 10,000 psi to the ram. If necessary, the Rescue Gator spreader can be operated by a hand pump. The inner spreader tips 3¼ -inches across; the outer spreader tips measure 4 ½-inches across.

Exit Sign

Dual-Lite Inc. has introduced an environmentally rated exit sign designed for maintenance-free industrial use that features oil, water and dust-tight construction, combined with a NEMA 4X rating to allow installation in most hostile environments.

The Dual-Lite Excite is constructed of lightweight, injection-molded non-corrosive Lexan. Each unit also features an injection-molded, high-impact thermoplastic frame with molded-in downlight apertures and a wall-mount plate molded of the same material. A molded neoprene gasket is bonded to the back of the unit to permit use in severe weather conditions.

Non-corrosive nylon screws are provided to hold the cover securely in place. All signs include a polycoated, aluminum-backed stencil, a diffuser polarized to provide uniform light distribution, extended life AC lamps, and universal snap-out arrows and all materials are UL 94V-0 flame rated.

The unit is available for wall-mount use as a standard AC only or self-contained emergency unit.

Helmet

The 660C Metro fire helmet, which has a fiberglass composite shell, is now being produced by Cairns & Brother, Inc.

The manufacturer states the helmet meets or exceeds all industry and government standards, including NFPA-72, and offers fire fighters protection from heat and chemicals, as well as impact and penetration protection at high temperatures.

The helmet has a Cairns Impact Cap, which is a foam liner, with six-way suspension and strap-locking device, to absorb the shock of the blows.

Submersible Pump

A line of electric submersible pumps has been introduced by Multiquip Inc. that features five models, ranging from 1/3 to 5 horsepower capacity.

The pumps fit down 10-inch casings without catching on rocks, stones, or other blockages. The liquid being pumped flows around the side of the motor, thereby cooling the windings and minimizing the possiblity of motor burnout.

Multiquip’s pumps can be operated indefinitely out of water without damage to the mechanical seals; the open impeller design allows small solids and sand to be discharged along with the pumped liquid.

Full thermal overload protection is standard, cutting off all power in the event of excessive heat rise in the motor. An aluminum die-cast casing, cast iron impeller, wear plate and volute, and stainless steel shaft and hardware are all standard features.

CPR Manikin

Simulaids, Inc. has designed a premature baby CPR manikin, the Premie, that weighs 3-pounds, 15-ounces. The baby has internal sensors attached to a light box console which gives an instant readout of how well CPR is being administered. Colored lights indicate correct finger position, proper compression of the sternum, ventilation pressure, and over compression of the chest. Overventilation and compression are signaled as errors.

Other features include a brachial pulse, and an internal lung that inflates when mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is administered, thus causing a discernible chest rise, and rib cage.

The little girl infant is 16-inches long and is made of soft plastic which simulates the feel of a human body.

A plastic reservoir is furnished for the infusion of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

Amplifiers

Motorola, Inc. has introduced a line of power amplifiers to complement their UHF and VHF portable two-way radios with Converta-Com console.

Designed for use with Motorola’s VHF MT500 or MX300 Series VHF portable radios, the N1274 VHF power amplifier can provide up to 40 watts power output. The N1275 can provide up to 35 watts of power output for the MT500 UHF portable radio.

Motorola’s vehicular power amplifiers complement new and existing Converta-Com portable radio systems, where they can provide the power of a mobile unit, yet remain portable.

Features include broadband design, reverse polarity protection, locking DC connector, mobile duty cycle and thermal cutoff protection.

The unit measures 4.75 x 6 x 2.5-inches and weighs 1.8-pounds.
