Halogen lamp in flashlights
A complete series of halogen lamps, custom designed for use in standard battery flashlights to provide increased candlepower and range by as much as 400%, has been introduced by Streamlight Inc. Compared to a conventional lamp, the new lamp, Nova, increases the flashlight’s candlepower without significantly reducing battery life due to the regenerative halogen cycle which constantly restores the filament.

Stretcher net
Medi-Net Products’ stretcher net is a paramedic designed tested attachment for ambulance stretchers. Designed to hold oxygen tanks, heart monitors, clip boards, radios and other equipment when moving a patient by stretcher, during transport and does not interfere with the stretcher’s normal function, according to the company. The net is made of nylon shrimp netting and can be easily removed for washing.

Total-wrap cylinders
Scott Aviation, a Figgie International Company, has introduced Air-Pak 4.5s, complete with Total-Wrap 4,500-psi cylinders of 30-and 60-minute duration. These new cylinders are completely interchangeable with existing Scott 4,500-psi cylinders in use throughout the fire service. The total-wrap concept provides an additional weight savings of 11% on 30-minute cylinders, making the Scott 4.5 the lightest weight SCBA on the market, according to the company. Both cylinders are approved by the Department of Transportation and certified by NIOSH and are constructed of deep-drawn aluminum alloy liners and totally wrapped in fiberglass, including the neck area.

Portable pump
Waterous Company has made its power pumps smaller. The new 24 X 22 1/4-inch, 11 horsepower pumps are more compact yet still have the same capacities up to 320 gpm and pressures up to 300 psi. The pumps, which are used for firefighting, booster tank filling, dewatering, washing, and irrigation, can be equipped with wraparound, litter, or rail base. Each can be mounted compactly into most any truck compartment, and the wraparound and litter bases can be easily carried by two people. Spark arresting muffler, liquid filled pressure gauge, electronic ignition, recoil and electric starter are standard.

Helmets and accessories
Phenix Technology Inc.’s new product line, called the First-Due Firefighter Series, includes fire helmets and fire helmet accessories. Adjustable liners, including those with ear and neck protection; various lengths of faceshields; and assorted markings are provided.

Training fogger
Thick white smoke is produced at the touch of a button by the new Roctronics fog generator. A one-gallon tank holds a watersoluble fogging fluid that is pumped by a high-pressure electric pump into a vaporization chamber where it flashes into dense white plumes which shoot 20 feet from the nozzle.

Flowprint display
FireOut Systems, Ltd. introduces Flowprint Display, a new system that provides information about your actual water flow on the fireground, and updates the readout every four seconds. Its features include: individual discharge flow by minute, total water flow, total actual flow time, and total run time. It also converts the voltage signal of a flow sensor into flow volume and then simultaneously displays flow in gallons per minute for each discharge that has a flow sensor.

Fiberglass epoxy pipe
Young Fire Equipment Company, working with the Fiberglass Resources Division of Koch Fiberglass Products, developed a pumper using fiberglass reinforced epoxy pipe for waterlines. Using KwiKey mechanical joints, which permit an unusual degree of movement without danger of leakage, overall performance of the 1,250-gpm Crusader II, specifically overcomes problems associated with corrosion, weight, and water flow.

Heatquencher
Heatquencher, introduced by FireOut Systems, Ltd., reads water flow and automatically proportions Fireout into the intake side of the fire pump at its correct ratio (one gallon of Fireout to 500 gallons of water) regardless of changes in pressure, number of discharges or line sizes. Heatquencher, which consists of a compact hydraulic pump and a surface-mounted control unit, also displays the water flow in each discharge; accumulates and displays total Fireout and water flow; and clocks and displays your run time and flow time.

Aluminum rams
Two lightweight aluminum rams whose threaded pistons and locking collars permit mechanical support of loads over long periods of time have been introduced by OTC Power Team. Available in 55-ton and 100-ton capacities, the rams will support loads at desired heights without hydraulic power when a locking collar is threaded around the piston and locked in position. Equipped with carrying handles, the rams are designed for working pressures up to 10,000 psi.

Salvage vacuum
Vetter Systems introduces the heavy-duty salvage vacuum for industrial and fire clean-ups. The vacuum eliminates large volumes of liquids and then pumps them away automatically. The cannister holds 26.4 gallons of oil, water, chemicals, or debris with a suction speed of over .46 gallons per second. The salvage vacuum cannot be used for gasoline or other flammable liquids. It has an operating radius of 12 feet, and is constructed of fiberglass-reinforced polyester with an acid resistant cannister.
