Marioff’s flagship brand, HI-FOG®, is the world’s premiere water mist fire protection system, with applications ranging from protecting cultural heritage buildings and aircraft hangers to machinery spaces and hotels. High-pressure water mist established its reputation in cruise ships. STREAMLIGHT® INC. is implementing a new basic performance standard for flashlights. The company helped form a coalition of 14 leading flashlight manufacturers to create the ANSI (American National Standards Institute)/NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) FL1—2009 Flashlight Basic Performance Standard, a standardized tests and uniform rating system for flashlight equipment. It is the first flashlight standard worldwide and introduces definitions and testing methods for flashlight basic performance as well as associated marking. URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH, in coordination with the Las Vegas (NV) Metropolitan Police Department as well as local, state and federal agencies, developed the Critical Infrastructure Protection System (CIPS), a geographic information system (GIS) that provides first responders with vital infrastructure information such as floor plans; locations of hazardous material; and updated 360° video of important facilities including government buildings, schools, major tourist attractions, and transportation centers. This tool received a Special Achievement Award at the 30th Annual ESRI International User Conference. Winners of this award were selected from more than 100,000 nominations and recognize outstanding work with GIS technology around the world. MASIMO announced that 150 Masimo Rad-57® Pulse CO-Oximeters will be distributed to every fire district in the state of Delaware during a statewide training event at the Odessa (DE) Fire Company’s (OFC’s) main fire station. Delaware is the first state to place this technology in every fire response district. The Rad-57s, which noninvasively measure the amount of carbon monoxide (CO) in the bloodstream, were purchased to enhance the response capabilities of Delaware’s first responders and protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel from the dangers of undetected CO poisoning. Funding for the Rad-57s was made possible through a $420,000 federal grant awarded to the OFC by the Assistance to Firefighter Grant program through the Department of Homeland Security. www.masimo.com.

The NATIONAL VOLUNTEER FIRE COUNCIL, with support from PFIZER, has launched the Put It Out campaign Web site to help firefighters and emergency personnel quit smoking and lead a healthier, smoke-free lifestyle. The Put It Out site contains sections to assist individuals to in quitting smoking, family members in supporting first responders who are quitting, departments in establishing a no-smoking policy and smoking cessation program, and state associations in encouraging their members to adopt a smoke-free lifestyle. The INSTITUTE FOR BUSINESS & HOME SAFETY announced the availability of new guidelines to protect property from the ravages of wildfire. The information pertains to homes and businesses, including farms and ranches, and is available electronically and as hard copy printed brochures suitable for mailing or distributing at events. SETCOM CORPORATION celebrated its 40th anniversary in June. Founded in 1970 by Kent Schwartzman, Comset, the original company name, was created from an existing industrial headset division of the San Jose Steel Company in San Jose, California. The business was initially started in Santa Clara, California, and relocated to Mountain View, California in 1975, where it operated for 29 years under its new name, Setcom. Schwartzman retired and sold the company to Pinnacle Peak Capital Partners in 2004.
