THE FIREFIGHTER CANCER SUPPORT NETWORK (FCSN) has been established to provide comfort and support to active and retired firefighters and their immediate family members upon a cancer diagnosis. The HARVARD FIRE EXECUTIVE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM is now accepting applications for its 2008 program, which must be received by February 11, 2008. AMERICAN LaFRANCE, LLC celebrated its 175th anniversary and the grand opening of its new manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in Summerville, South Carolina. More than 1,200 attendees participated in a two-day event that included antique apparatus displays, plant tours, and a traditional “wetdown” of the new facilities. The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility includes more than 440,000 square feet of production and assembly space dedicated to fire apparatus and vocational chassis. The corporate office occupies 57,000 square feet and houses an antique fire apparatus display area.

The sOCIETY OF FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEERS (SFPE) offers numerous 2008 academic year scholarships (ranging between $500 and $7,000) for fire protection engineering graduate and undergraduate students. FWD SEAGRAVE has appointed a new management team. Nathan Nick, former head of engineering, was named chief operating officer; Mary Jo Wenzel, former controller, was named chief financial officer; and Matt McMorran, former head of dealer development, was named vice president of sales and marketing. Scott Mintier, former chief executive, resigned in connection with the appointments, along with several members of his team.

The BAKERSFIELD (CA) FIRE DEPARTMENT (BFD) was established 130 years ago in 1877, and has been in operation longer than any other Kern County fire department. In 1956, the BFD received the highest ISO rating in the United States and a Class 1 Fire Department designation. The BFD now has 13 stations and 225 sworn, support, and reserve personnel who provide fire suppression, emergency medical services, vehicle and technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, water rescue, and other life safety services to a community of more than 300,000 citizens.
