Defective scuba regulator and heat detectors pose hazards

Some 1,800 G500 second-stage regulators used in scuba diving are being recalled by Scubapro of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, a division of Johnson Worldwide Associates Inc. The VIVA control knobs on the regulators can detach during a dive, allowing water to rush into the regulator, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced. The regulators involved have serial numbers (on the bottom face of the exhaust manifold) less than or equal to 13497450 and were sold in diving specialty stores nationally from March 1997 through June 1997. Scubapro dealers will provide a free replacement. For additional information, call Scubapro at (800) 467-2822.

Chemetronics Caribe, Inc. of Luquillo, Puerto Rico, is recalling 12,000 Stargard AT series dual-contact heat detectors. The detectors–part of a fire detection alarm system used primarily in commercial establishments–may not detect the presence of fire. Codes of the recalled detectors include the following: 0594 through 1294, W1-Y95 through W52-Y95, W1-Y96 through W52-Y96, and W1-Y97 through W22-Y97. They were sold nationwide from May 1994 through May 1997. Contact the manufacturer at (800) 496-8383 for replacement and installation arrangements.
