Photos: Four-Alarm Fire in Newark (NJ) Ironbound Section

On the night of November 15, 2014, firefighters from the Newark (NJ) Fire Department responded to 295 Lafayette St in the Ironbound section for numerous reports of a building fire.

On arrival of E-5 and BC-5, heavy fire was showing in the rear of a three story frame occupied multiple dwelling (OMD) with fire already extending into exposure B, a similar three-story frame OMD attached, and exposure D, a 2 1/2-story frame dwelling.

A second alarm was requested, quickly followed by a third alarm. Conditions rapidly deteriorated; all members were evacuated from all three buildings and a defensive attack was put into place to stop the fire from spreading any further.

A fourth alarm was requested for additional personnel and mutual aid was requested into the city for coverage (a rare occurance). The fire was declared under control in approximately two hours and 20 minutes.
