Unsafe Units

SurvivAir has announced that some of their 9038 and 9838 breathing units not in compliance with NIOSH/MSHA regulations are now part of a recall/retrofit program.

NIOSH has rescinded its April 22, 1980 stop sale of the models in view of a U.S. Divers agreement to modify the units according to NIOSH/MSHA guidelines.

The following units must be retrofit in order to carry valid certification: Models 9038-00,9038-02, 9838-00,9838-02, demand only, that use a 9127-00 regulator and alarm with white part number label; Models 9038-20, 9038-22, 9838-20, 9838-22, pressure demand that use a 9127-01 regulator and alarm with white part number label.

To identify these units, check the part number on the regulator or back pack approval plates, as well as the alarm label color. The defective units will be retrofit with modified alarm assemblies, all of which are NIOSH/MSHA approved. An aqua label will be used to identify the retrofitted units.

Send alarms to SurvivAir for a free retrofitting, which will be free until April 15. Further information may be obtained from SurvivAir distributors or Ben Matranga at 800-854-8097 or 714-540-8010.
