Comments sought on hose valve, roof assembly standards
Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is proposing two of its standards—one on roof assemblies, the other on hose valves—for recognition as American National Standards.
The first standard, UL 580, involves testing that simulates the pressure effects of wind velocity on roof assemblies. The roof deck, its attachment to supports, and roof covering materials are evaluated in the standard.
UL 668 is a safety standard for hose valves for the fire service. It covers angle-pattern and straightway-pattern hose valves intended for use on standpipes, fire pumps, and hydrants. UL _____eks continued recognition of this standard, a revised version of ANSI/UL 668-1982.
Underwriters Laboratories seeks comment on both standards as part of the recognition review process. Contact L.M. Cohen (UL 668) or Bill Bird (UL 580) at UL, 333 Pfingsten Road, Northbrook, Illinois 60062-2096, or call (312) 272-8800.
