Icom Announces New F3261D Digital Waterproof Portable

Icom America, an industry-leading manufacturer of two-way radio communications, announces the new waterproof F3261D series VHF/UHF portable radio with a built-in global positioning system (GPS), emergency functions, and durable construction. Utilizing 6.25 kHz IDAS™ technology, the F3261D digital portable complies with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) narrowband mandate that takes effect in less than four months on January 1, 2013.

“The F3261D’s release comes at a pivotal time for land mobile radio users who must convert their wideband systems to at least 12.5 kHz efficiency,” says Icom America National Land Mobile Sales Manager, Joe Collica. “Icom is pleased to expand its IDAS™ line with a new portable that not only meets, but exceeds FCC narrowbanding requirements at 6.25 kHz digital efficiency in both VHF and UHF.”

All versions of the F3261D series are IP67 dustproof and waterproof, and come standard with surveillance and emergency features. The lone worker and man down functions both activate emergency signals if the transceiver is not used or left in a horizontal position for a set duration. Select F3261D versions have built-in GPS and a position reporting function that sends current position data to other radios or dispatch stations at regular intervals or a preprogrammed time. Similar to other IDAS™ portables, the F3261D series VHF/UHF portable accepts an optional GPS
microphone accessory.

The F3261D meets MIL-STD 810 specifications and protects against powder dust, sand, and other debris. Icom’s new 5W portable can withstand submersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Other features include 800mW loud audio, built-in voice scrambler, 2-Tone/5-Tone and MDC 1200 signalings available.

The F3261D series portable is the latest product addition to IDAS™, the Icom Digital Advanced System. IDAS™ fulfills the FCC mandate that requires all public safety and industrial/business LMR systems to operate at a minimum 12.5 kHz narrowband. The F3261D and other IDAS™ radios support 6.25 kHz communications and adapt to an agency’s budget and timeline. Icom provides three separate paths to narrowband migration in conventional/trunked or single/multi-site configuration: 12.5 kHz analog systems, 6.25 kHz/12.5 kHz analog/IDAS™ digital systems and 12.5 kHz P25 digital systems.

The F3261D series portable has a suggested retail price of $950.00 and will be available September 2012 with a 3-year warranty. For more information on the F3261D portable radio and Icom’s other narrowband-compliant products, visit www.icomamerica.com/landmobile.
