NEW YORK (Fire Department City of New York) – On Wednesday, June 6th, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Fire Commissioner Daniel. A Nigro presided over FDNY’s 149th Annual Medal Day Ceremony at City Hall Plaza.
A total of 67 Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, and Fire Marshals, and Officers were recognized and honored for their life-saving work in the last year.

“Only the best of the best do this work and the best receive these medals,” said Mayor de Blasio. “All of you we honor here today, you make everyone very proud and today is a day we are very grateful for all of you, on behalf of 8.5 million New Yorkers.”
“Every single day, FDNY members risk their lives to protect our city, responding thousands of times a day to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous conditions that test their training and their resolve,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro. “These moments of courage and bravery define our Department and show our city that the FDNY will always be there to respond when called, and we will always do everything in our power to save lives and property.”
Notable medal recipients include, Lieutenant Michael J. Conboy of Rescue Company 3 who received the James Gordon Bennett Medal and NYS Honorary Fire Chiefs Association Medal for saving a young child and another individual trapped in a fire in the Bronx and EMT Taylor T. Perez of EMS Station 8 who received the Christopher J. Prescott Medal for disarming and restraining a knife-wielding individual in order to save his partner’s life and their patients.
