Another Fire Station Burns Down

By Ray McCormack

Talk about a total loss. When a fire station burns down with the apparatus inside, the community of firefighters and the community at large has been dealt a serious setback in fire protection. The monetary cost associated with a typical loss like this is large and could be in the millions of dollars. The other big loss is that of public image; we are the protectors from fire yet we have fallen victim to it. Why?

The reason is simple we don’t practice what we preach. People in the fire service who preach sprinkler protection need to look at themselves first. Protecting the protectors should be the campaign. Suffering fire station losses should push this effort forward to do as we do, not just as we say.
