Special Bomb Squad Trucks to be Built by Rosenbauer

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) recently awarded a contract for bomb squad vehicles to Rosenbauer. The units were sold by Dave Marshall of C.W. Williams & Company. The procurement process was handled by Arlington County, Virginia whose fire department will be receiving one of the trucks. Multiple public safety agencies in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC will be receiving the units.

The 3/16” formed aluminum body measures 27’ in length and will be mounted on a Spartan Metro Star ER chassis. An interior command center is located in the forward area of the body and will house an elaborate array of audio/visual equipment along with a desk, chair and storage provisions. Ramps allow for a remote-controlled robot and equipment carts stored in the body to be deployed from either side. Spanning the length of the body on each side will be an electric awning that offers protection during inclement weather or on hot days.

A 20kW diesel generator will supply electrical power to a 6,000-watt light tower, two electrical reels and multiple outlets that are located throughout the vehicle. A camera will be mounted on a 25’ telescoping mast that will be located behind the cab. Over 20 LED warning lights will be installed on the vehicle including a 72” Ultra Freedom and two FNMINI Freedom 24” light bars on the cab roof. Additional storage is available in the rooftop compartments which are reached via an access ladder located on the rear of the truck.

This procurement includes a “Cooperative Agreement” clause allowing other agencies, counties, and municipalities to “tag-on” or “piggy back” to this contract.
