Son of Fallen Buffalo Firefighter Takes Oath

The son of Michael “Mickey” Catanzaro, a firefighter who was killed in the line of duty, has taken the oath and joined the Buffalo Fire Department as a new recruit, reports WNLO CW 23 Buffalo.

Nick Catanzaro was just nine months old when his father was killed in the 1983 Division Street propane blast. Five firefighters died in the blast, which remains the department’s worst loss of life.

Catanzaro, now 29, tells the Buffalo News (http://bit.ly/I4VQM0) that becoming a firefighter has been a life-long dream. He is now one of 42 recruits who begin a rigorous 12-week training program.
