The Bayou Cane Fire Protection District in Houma, Louisiana, uses this FERRARA quint as a first-response ladder in its district, which has a concentration of commercial and retail businesses and schools, explains Chief Jerry Gautreaux. The unit serves as a backup pumper on second alarms when an elevated waterway is needed and also answers medical calls.

  • Inferno chassis with 210-inch wheelbase and six-seat cab;
  • DETROIT Series 60 455-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 4000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • HALE Qmax single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with three crosslays (two 1½-inch, one 2½-inch), and rear four-inch intake/discharge;
  • 57-foot aerial ladder with 500-pound dry and 250-pound wet tip load, ELKHART Scorpion ladderpipe, and 13-foot, six-inch outrigger spread;
  • four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • MEDTRONIC Life Pak 500 AED and BLA equipment; and
  • light and power with ONAN eight-kw hydraulic generator, six FRC floodlights (two each on cab roof side, midship, and aerial tip), and two HANNAY electric cord reels.

The Johnson County Fire Control District in Buffalo, Wyoming, designed this DANKO quick-attack unit for rescue and vehicle fires, explains Chief Wes Johnson. The unit is also first out for mountain cabin fires. The jurisdiction lies at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Interstate 90 at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains on Highway 16.

  • BAUER air compressor to replenish SCBA cylinders;

  • light and power with HONDA three-kw gasoline generator, two FRC telescoping floodlights at right side of body, and two WHELEN fixed scene lights on body.

The Ware (MA) Fire Department</span> replaced a 100-foot aerial ladder with this SMEAL platform quint. Deputy Chief Dan Danitis says that the department felt a platform was safer for all-around operations. Also, the firefighters are used to the mid-mount configuration, which addressed a strict height restriction at the station.

The South Davis Metro Fire Agency in Bountiful, Utah, assigned this SEAGRAVE pumper to protect North Salt Lake City. It responds to traffic accidents, hazmats, and medical calls, as well as fires, explains Engineer Thomas Carlsen. The district has four refineries and two interstate highways.

  • WATEROUS CSU single-stage, 2,000-gpm pump with top-mount panel and identical intake/discharge setup on both sides of vehicle for easy apparatus placement and versatility, 1¾-inch front bumper line, two 1¾-inch crosslays, two rear 2½-inch preconnects (one with TFT Blitzfire hand monitor), and ELKHART Stinger monitor;
  • UPF 500-gallon water tank;
  • ROBINSON roll-up compartment doors and two wheel well sleeves with two spare SCBA cylinders in each;
  • AMKUS rescue tool;
  • HEART START AED; and
  • light and power with REDI-LINE 1.6-kw generator, two FRC floodlights on cab roof, and two WHELEN fixed scene lights on each side on cab.

The Corinna-Caledonia (MI) Fire Department uses this HME quint as a first-out unit, says Assistant Chief Russ Wahl. The area has undergone rapid community growth in residential and commercial properties and includes a large and historic village.

  • four-cylinder air cascade system with fill station;
  • four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders, plus a storage rack for 10;
  • PHOENIX rescue tool;
  • MSA thermal imaging camera; and
  • light and power with HONDA two-kw inverter with floodlight, four HAVIS SHIELDS floodlights (two each at aerial tip and on tripods), one UNITY hosebed light, and two WHELEN fixed scene lights at rear.

The Blue Hills Fire District in Bloomfield, Connecticut, has a mixed industrial and residential area with many condos and health care facilities, explains Chief Art Gold. The district has replaced an aerial ladder with this PIERCE platform for easier operation.

  • Dash* chassis with 270-inch wheelbase and 10-inch raised roof cab with six seats;

  • light and power with an ONAN 15-kw PTO generator and six FRC floodlights (four portable on body and two telescoping at rear of platform).

The Cardinal Joint Fire District in Canfield, Ohio, protects the City and Township of Canfield. Deputy Chief Donald Hutchison says there are no hydranted areas in the district, so they use this KME pumper/tanker as either an attack unit or a supply unit.
