Car Plunges Down FL Parking Garage Elevator Shaft

A car plummeted down an open elevator shaft in a downtown Miami parking garage on Tuesday, bursting into flames.

Miami (FL) Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll Jr. told reporters that for unknown reasons the car went through a safety gate before plunging to the ground and catching fire. No one was inside the vehicle and there were no reported injuries.

The standalone garage has no ramps, but uses mechanical lifts to get vehicles into and out of their parking spaces.

“When I called for the car, all the sudden I hear my car alarm going off and I hear a big bang. I turn around and the car had fallen down the elevator shaft,” car owner Matt Olechnowicz told WPLG-Channel 10.
